Recession be damned – I’m itching for a shopping spree! But I don’t want to be a total tool and drool over the latest Louis. (Though, if you’re in the mood to donate to the Green Gamine Foundation, I’ll let you know whom to make checks payable to…) In any case, while skimming the internet, on the lookout for something with a little bit of quirk and a little bit of green thought, I found these absolutely adorable change purses.
Okay, so the little Nepalese girls look a bit like Eric Cartman, but with pink pants and a button nose how can you resist? And let’s not forget that these small bags are being sold through Global Goods Partners, meaning that the revenue benefits a part of the world desperately in need of cash (yes, there are such places outside of these here United States). In this case, the funds go to Nepal, hence the Central-Asian, cookie-cutter shaped, cutie patootie on the purse.
Each purse uses a felt-like material native to the area. It is then dyed with an eco-friendly pigment made from berries and the like; then, hand sewn. The cost of each purse goes to the non-profit Friends Handicrafts, which supports the surrounding area of Katmandu.
Unleash your inner five year-old and help some gals in need.
XO, The Green Gamine
