If you read the title and thought WTF?, rest assured: you are not alone. The Blue Velvet star has decided to sprinkle a little yellow into her resume. The result? Green Porno, a Sundance Channel Web original premiering its second season this week.

In an interview with NPR, Isabella Rossellini detailed her pitch to the network:

“I’ve always been interested in animal behavior. But I know most people are interested not in animal behavior, but in sex. So I thought, well, if I tell how these animals, which are not mammals, reproduce, it’ll be fun.”

Goody. Laughs aside, and I imagine there will be many – I mean, have you tried reproducing with two legs? Imagine those lucky starfish with five! – Rossellini does have some lofty goals. She has no desire to preach to her audience. Instead, she’d rather humor them.

“I would like for people to laugh, and then to say, ‘Oh, I didn’t know that about an animal,’” Rossellini says. Maybe they’ll even fall in love with the animal kingdom, she says, “and then feel the urge to protect it.”

In keeping with the farce, Rossellini dresses up as the animal she is introducing. She credits silents stars, like Chaplin and Keaton, as sources of inspiration. There’s an emphasis on paper mache sets, which are hopefully being recycled. In short, there’s nothing particularly pornographic about Green Porno.

That doesn’t mean you’re not hot and bothered.
